OUR COACHES

Leila Vaziri

Leila Vaziri

As a Swim Bike Run NYC coach, Leila's drive, spirit, and goals align naturally with our swim program. Leila’s competitive swim career in her respective age group, and in the collegiate, national and international swim arenas culminated in her breaking a world record and taking home a gold medal for the 50m backstroke in the 2007 Swimming World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

Leila is able to reach swimmers of all ages and levels of ability. Her life-long love of swimming shines as she shares her skills with others. Leila is passionate about the benefits of overall well-being that swimming can bring to the individual. Additionally, she believes that the Endless Pool can serve as an ideal setting for her emphasis on breathing, stretching, flexibility, and strength. Nurtured from youth to adulthood by internationally recognized swim coach, Michael Lohberg, Leila later became the most decorated female swimmer at Indiana University’s renowned aquatic program, and a world record holder while she was a member of the US National Swim Team during its most successful years in history.

Ellis Peters

Ellis Peters is our most recent addition, joining our staff in summer 2012. Originally from Washington DC, Ellis has been in New York for nearly twenty years, which is as long as his swim coaching career! Ellis sees swimming as a "moving meditation," and he is passionate about helping people become comfortable with the water, finding their breathing rhythm and balance in the aquatic environment. He is a passionate teacher, and values seeing others achieve their goals through a holistic approach, specifically children, seniors and rehabilitating swimmers.

Fiona Laughlin

Fiona Laughlin began her career as a professional swim coach in 1989 assisting her father, Total Immersion founder and creator Terry Laughlin, at Total Immersion Swimming workshops. Since then she continued her career as a coach and a coach trainer in the US and internationally making her today the world's most experienced coach in the TI method. Fiona has taught thousands of swimmers and triathletes of all ages and ability levels the essential skills for reaching their potential as a swimmer by teaching them how to exercise conscious control over their relationship with the water.

Fiona's personal philosophy on coaching is to teach you how to understand how your body interacts with the water in order to create a relationship with the water that works for you rather than against youand to then use this understanding to consciously create the outcome that you want. This method has been proven to work effectively with swimmers of all ages and ability levels from phobic, to novice toelite. Once the understanding and relationship is established on a conscious level the swimmer works through repetition of movements that shift these skills from a conscious to an unconscious state over timeon a path towards mastery that will serve them best in the long term. After this foundation is solidified, the swimmer learns how to build power, speed and endurance (if this is their goal) while maintainingcontrol over their form thereby opening up the full spectrum of their potential.

Some of the essential skills and elements include but are not limited to: balance, selective relaxation, alignment, buoyancy, eliminating drag through posture, breathing technique, accessing power through exact and proper timing, connecting the body as a whole (this includes the 2-beat and 6-beat kick) and the progression from interrupted movements into flowing movements. For triathletes and open water swimmers, open water techniques of sighting, wetsuit use, and navigation can also be addressed.

Fiona recently relocated back to her home state of New York after 5 years in Los Angeles and is happy to join the SBR team as the in-house TI specialist.

CYCLING LESSONS

ABOUT OUR SADDLE FIT PROGRAM

Arguably the most important part of your bike is the saddle. Feeling comfortable while riding your bike is one of the keys to longevity in the sport and to reaching your goals.

There are hundreds of saddles, of all different types, shapes, sizes, padding, colors and cuts. Each person’s anatomy is unique, hence a saddle that is ideal for your best friend might not work for you. During the SBR Saddle Fitting, we help you make an informed decision about which saddle is the best for your body composition.

During the 30-minute session you have the opportunity to test up to 4 saddles in our fit station. We start off with your existing saddle and listening to your feedback on how it feels to you. We then tailor the saddles you test based on your expressed preferences and feedback on how each saddle feels to you.

You do not need to bring your bike to the shop, your SBR Saddle Fit will take place on our fit bike, which can be fully adjusted to your body for the session.
