Tell me about your triathlon history & how you got started in the sport...
My first sprint triathlon actually was when I was 16. Otherwise, as I was going to school I was playing in our basketball team and was swimming competitively. After moving to New York in 2000 I first started swimming with the Asphalt Green Masters Swim Team before I picked up running again the following year resulting in my first Marathon in 2002. In 2005 I added swimming and cycling into my program again did a few duathlons, one olympic and the Miami Man Half Iron Triathlon. After focusing on running again in 2006 and my second marathon it is now time for some serious triathlon. Let the pain begin... 2007 was great, I raced a number of events with a focus on Patriots Half Iron in July and my first full Ironman in Florida.
Looking ahead, what athletic goals have you set for yourself in 2008 ...
- Would like to set a new PR for Half Marathon, before the tri season really starts
- Ironman Germany: Cut a few minutes off my time in Florida and hopefully get a ticket to Hawaii
What is your favorite thing about competing in triathlons?
The disbelief in people's faces when asking about how we train.
What gets you motivated for a big race, or hard training session?
Other than the satisfaction I get from going beyond everything before, particular music really gets me going. The flip side is, I can not listen to music while working out I would always end up sprinting.
What's your favorite meal to eat before and after a big race?
Depending on the distance I will have as much as two Toasted Almond Butter and Jelly Bagels, two Ensures and a Banana at about 3am.
What other hobbies do you enjoy?
snowboarding
What is the best piece of advice you have for other triathletes?
Triathlon is the ability to enjoy the pain of longer and harder training
