Is there one word that describes the joy you receive from your sport?
Fulfillment
How did you become interested in your sport?
Having a world class triathlete for a mother I never really had a choice! She dragged me out for my first race when I was 13 years old and have never looked back since.
What other hobbies do you enjoy?
Snowskiing, golf, Aussie Rules Football, thoroughbred racing, surf lifesaving.
What's your favorite meal to eat before and after a big race?
Before: Lasagna
After: Quarter-pounder meal and a couple of stubbies of VB (translation: Bottles of Victoria Bitter, a fine Australian beer "for a hard earned thirst").
Do you have a favorite song, favorite music group, or is there music you like to train to, or is there a certain song that plays in your head when you race or ride?
AC/DC, Rolling Stones and, at the moment, Ministry 2006 Annual.
Do you have a personal motto?
Swim like a fish, ride like a machine and run like you stole something!
The most memorable and meaningful race you've been in and why?
One race that really stands out, and not because of any great time or placing, is the 2004 World Championships, held on the beautiful volcanic island of Madeira in Portugal. The opportunity to represent your country is something that not many people get to experience, and the camaraderie among the Australian Team that year was simply electric. I'd had a few years away from the sport, had missed out on a spot the previous year so was pretty stoked to make the team in 2004 while working full time. On the day I remember having a great swim/run, and nutting it out on possibly the most grueling bike course ever for a worlds. Crossing the line with Aussie flag in hand was a special moment that I will cherish forever. The after-party was pretty good too from recollection.
