SBR Multisports and Elite Bicycles
challenge cyclists: sit on a bike
continuously for two days or longer
in midtown store, take home top bike.
August 30,
2005
Manhattan’s SBR Multisports
and Elite Bicycles have pledged to
give a top quality bicycle to one
of five randomly chosen athletes.
The catch: to win, the rider will
stay on that bike for upwards of two
days, sitting in place on stands in
the window of the midtown shop.
On September 23rd at 7:00 am, five
riders, chosen by a lottery, will
clip their shoes into the pedals of
five top of the line Elite Magnus
bicycles. The bikes will be on stands
in the window of SBR Multisports,
located at 203 W. 58th St. in midtown
Manhattan. For the next two days or
more, the competitors will try to
stay in place. The last person to
stay on will keep his top bike frame,
and perhaps have set a record.
The riders have not been determined
yet- SBR is seeking riders from among
their customers but will also enter
anyone who comes in and seems qualified.
“We’re looking to be part
of something historic,” says
store owner Christophe Vandaele. The
athletes will be unable to get off
the bike for longer than 5 minutes
at a time, every three hours, and
must keep their bike shoes clipped
into their pedals the whole time.
The competition will be held in the
flagship store of New York's only
multisport company. The equipment
emporium, designed by celebrity architects
Paul Preissner and Jeffery Inaba,
opened in January and was built from
80% post recycled materials. An innovative,
stylish space, it features an Endless
Pool, high altitude training chamber
and other specialized equipment for
the endurance athlete. The store will
stay open for the duration of the
event.
